Mixing classical with rock and roll . 'One Man Symphony' Rick Nelson

Category : Artists

Rick Nelson combines his talents as a classical musician with his love of rock ‘n’ roll, on stage with Polyphonic Spree, the Twilight Singers and his current band Afghan Whigs, and in Marigny Studios, the New Orleans facility he has owned since 2011.

In our interview the stellar record producer, string section composer, arranger and performer told us all about sitting in with Queen for We Are The Champions, sharing the stage with Joss Stone, Tony Bennett and Cyndi Lauper, and playing Beatles songs in front of Sir George Martin.

Rick uses a full suite of Aston Origin , Spirit and Starlight mics in the studio where he says as far as possible he likes to capture a live band sound with everyone set up in the live room.

““I had used Aston mics before at other studios and had fallen in love with them. I did a string session and they had the Spirit and the Origin. The Spirit sounded great on the Cello as it had that really great high-end boost at 5k, and the Origin rocked on the violin as it is a little bit flatter and works really well on the high strings.” He told us.

Great to have you onboard Rick – welcome to the family!
