Holed-up with Aston – the multi-talented Simon Dobson

Category : Artists

Since the age of 18 Simon Dobson has somehow managed not only to balance his talents as a composer, conductor and a trumpet player, but to achieve critical acclaim for all three disciplines. He is a three-times winner of the British Composer Awards and has recently received a PRS award to fund the writing and recording of his new album, which he is working on while ‘holed-up’ in a friend’s remote Welsh holiday cottage.

He has minimal equipment with him; Logic, Sibelius and an Akai keyboard, plus his trusty Aston Spirit condenser mic and Halo reflection filter.

“Vocals couldn’t have been easier with the Spirit. I’m not the greatest singer but they just sounded awesome to me with nothing done to them except a little reverb added.”

The album is due for release later in 2019, by which time Simon will be on the road with his live brass/electronica trio, Badcore Horns.

Welcome to the Aston family Simon!
