IDLES scoop Q Awards gong

Category : Artists

Our friends IDLES have won ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ at this year’s prestigious Q Awards, sharing top spot with fellow UK punk band Goat Girl. The band also performed at the Q Awards awards ceremony at the Roundhouse in London, along with ‘Best Live Act’ winners Wolf Alice. Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller were among the other artists to be honoured at the event.

The band’s appearance at the awards show, which they described on social media as ‘pretty nuts’, follows their recent barnstorming- and controversial - appearance on Later with Jools during which the BBC studios, and Jools’ piano, appeared to be at risk of damage during parts of the performance.

The Jools, his piano and the studio survived the onslaught, as did the Aston mics the band use for their live show. IDLES use Aston Starlight mics as drum overheads and Aston Spirits on their guitar cabs. The mics will see plenty of action; IDLES are currently playing the UK legs of their extensive world tour, which runs into May 2019.

IDLES also received a Q Awards nomination for their second album, Joy as an Act of Resistance, which released in August to widespread critical acclaim and reached number 5 in the album charts.

Congratulation IDLES on some well-deserved recognition!
