Aston band Idles scoop Best Album at Ivor Novello Awards
Idles have had their critically acclaimed second album ‘Joy As An Act Of Resistance’ honoured at the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards, The band picked up the gong for ‘Best Album’ at the PRS for Music-sponsored event, which recognises ‘excellence in songwriting’. Other awards went to The 1975 and Ben Howard, with Richard Ashcroft honoured for his ‘Outstanding Contribution To British Music’.
Idles, who are currently playing USA dates, return to the UK this Friday 31st May to play Victoria Park in London, before continuing their global onslaught around Europe.
The band tour with Aston Starlights, Spirits and Origins, go-to mics for the two engineers who share FOH responsibilities for the louder-than-loud UK rockers, Chris Fullard and, for USA dates, Jeremy Snyder. With Idles reputation for on-stage mayhem, it’s the mics’ durability, as well as their sound, which gets them the gigs. As Chris told us:
“They’re indestructible. Helpful, especially with some of the bands I work with.”
Idles guitarist Lee Kiernan is another fan:
“Everything about Aston is sick. They look sick and they sound sick.”
Idles famously tested the mics’ robust reputation by putting their Aston collection through a savage beating before a show at London’s Forum. The mics, although cosmetically bruised, were used for the gig as usual.
