About this product

Professional Switchable Pattern Condenser Microphone Utilising a 1" Gold Evaporated Capsule

Aston Spirit — Multi-Pattern Large-Diaphragm Condenser

The Spirit is Aston's flagship large-diaphragm condenser — and its multi-pattern, transformer-balanced sibling to the Origin. Where the Origin is open and transparent, the Spirit adds weight and harmonic colour from its custom UK-manufactured transformer, and gives engineers three polar patterns to shape the room and the source.

Three Patterns, One Capsule

Cardioid for close vocals and instruments. Omni for ambient room capture, ensembles, and natural off-axis tone. Figure-8 for mid-side recording, ribbon-style guitar amp pickup, and dual-singer setups. The pattern switch sits on the body — no menus, no remote control to misplace.

Sound Character

The toroidal transformer of Aston's own design gives the Spirit a subtle harmonic weight that flatters vocals, brass, and electric guitar cabs — there's a gentle presence lift centred around 10 kHz that lets sources sit forward in the mix without sibilance. Quieter and more headroom-rich than the Origin: 14 dB EIN, 138 dB max SPL.

In the Studio

Lead vocals, jazz and classical ensembles, drum overheads, piano, brass, and electric guitar cabinets. The pattern switching turns it into a versatile workhorse — the kind of mic a studio reaches for first and second on the same session.
