Chilè

Chilè are an emerging electro-pop band comprising Polish singer Marta Konik, French bassist Damien Ricaud and Czech drummer Miro Haldina. The London-based trio produce what has been described as a 'genius mix of pop and electronica' and their perfect, sometimes ethereal vocals demand the best in microphones…

Tell us About Yourselves…

Marta [singer, songwriter]: I feel a strong connection to nature. I can skip sleep to talk about the universe and life after death. The most important thing in songwriting is honesty, truth and real feelings. I need to have a reason to write. I find inspiration in dreams, feelings, people, traveling, nature and poetry, but sometimes I am strongly inspired by other artists. Every day I listen to a bunch of songs and I am trying to find something which causes chills. The best-case scenario for the near future would be to cut off from the world for a while, go to an island and write. When I write I create all the pictures in my head. Every song has its own picture. I used to love cheese but now I am a vegan and meditation lover.

Damien [bass]: I'm a well-traveled investment banker, born across the English Channel. I moved from São Paulo in 2013 where I was lucky enough to experience the unique, booming street-party music scene which truly made me realize that rhythm comes first.

Miro [drums]: My style is a compound, a composition of multiple elements. I believe the concept of the rhythm instrument is to touch the audience's most basic instinct: to move to the beat. That is why my base element is always the groove – this is the foundation of my playing. I aim to enter a zone where I can take a left turn to make something unexpected happen. I like to surprise myself and people around me and, ultimately, create a memorable experience as often as possible.

The Pursuit of Originality

What we’re constantly looking for is to create interesting sounds that we haven’t used before and to find the sweet spot between digital and analogue. Our go-to gear reflects this approach. You’re very likely to catch us in the studio tweaking digital synths and samples on Ableton and getting some warmth and depth from the analogue Novation Bass Station II synth. In live situations, the Roland SPD-SX has been a tremendous help to bring that extra layer and diversity of sounds (especially scratches which are the must-have part of our music). We also take live performances as an opportunity to re-arrange songs and include further elements such as Fender bass and guitars rather than looking to replicate studio tracks, which makes it really exciting and open-ended.

Choosing the Aston Origin on vocals was a no-brainer as it’s been outperforming the other mics we’ve been blind testing it against. The Origin won that competition with a much deeper and brighter sound. Plus it has a great design and features like the built-in pop filter that we particularly enjoy
